What Is a Stainless Steel Braided Hose?

Stainless steel braided hose is a flexible piping connection component used to convey gases, liquids, steam, and other media. It uses a corrugated metal tube as the inner tube and is reinforced and protected by an outer stainless steel wire braid. This structure combines flexibility with a certain level of pressure resistance. It is commonly used between piping and equipment, pumps, or valves, as well as between fixed piping and components exposed to vibration, thermal movement, or limited relative movement, providing a flexible transition where rigid piping cannot be connected directly.

When correctly selected and installed within the allowable bend radius, stainless steel braided hose can be used to absorb vibration, compensate for thermal expansion and contraction, reduce piping stress, and accommodate a certain degree of installation misalignment. It is therefore widely used in industrial piping, petrochemical equipment, machinery, power and thermal systems, instruments, vacuum equipment, automotive systems, and other applications that require flexible piping connections.

Stainless Steel Metal Hose Braiding Process

Stainless Steel Braided Hose Specifications and Selection

Yueding can configure and manufacture metal hoses according to your piping interfaces, installation dimensions, and actual operating conditions, with a supply range covering nominal diameters from DN6 to DN800. Corrugated inner tubes are usually hydroformed from SS304 or SS316L stainless steel. Annular corrugations are used for most standard products. If your project requires helical corrugations, availability can be confirmed separately according to the required size, quantity, and supply conditions.

A metal hose mainly consists of a corrugated inner tube, an outer braid, and end fittings. The corrugated inner tube provides flexibility. The braid is used to reinforce and protect the corrugated tube and helps limit axial elongation under internal pressure. The end fittings connect the hose to external piping or equipment. Depending on the product structure and application requirements, the corrugated tube, braid, and fittings can be assembled by welding, mechanical clamping, or a combined structure using both methods.

Metal hoses can usually be connected to your piping or equipment by flanged connections, welded tube connections, mechanical clamping, or custom fittings. Flanged connections are convenient for installation, sealing, later removal, and maintenance, making them suitable for piping systems that require regular servicing. Welded tube connections are suitable for projects where reliable on-site welding conditions are available and can provide a direct and relatively economical fixed connection. Clamp-secured connections and special fitting connections are usually more suitable for small-diameter stainless steel hoses and for applications that require convenient assembly or a specific interface match. We can also provide matching stainless steel clamps and fittings in different structures to help the hose match your existing piping, equipment ports, and installation conditions.

Because both the hose structure and the external connection method need to be confirmed according to the actual operating conditions, you can refer to the following six points when preparing the relevant information. Based on these details, we can help you determine a more suitable hose structure, connection method, and production configuration.

Hose Size and Length

Confirm the nominal diameter, overall length, and required flexible section according to the piping layout and installation distance.

Pressure and Temperature

Provide the actual working pressure, temperature range, and required test conditions. Pressure capability varies with hose diameter, material, braid structure, and temperature.

Conveyed Medium

Identify the gas, liquid, steam, chemical medium, or vacuum condition to help select the corrugated tube, fitting, and sealing materials.

Movement and Bend Radius

Confirm whether the hose is used for static installation, vibration absorption, repeated bending, axial movement, or lateral displacement.

End Connections

Confirm the connection type, standard, size, material, and orientation at both ends. Different fittings can be combined on the same hose assembly.

Drawing and Quantity

Provide drawings, samples, existing part numbers, and order quantity when available to improve specification confirmation and quotation accuracy.

Small Metal Hose End Fitting Options

The end connection should match your equipment interface, piping standard, installation space, and maintenance requirements. Yueding can provide fixed or loose flanges, threaded fittings, quick-lock couplings, PTFE-lined ends, elbow connections, and other configurations for stainless steel braided hose assemblies.Flanges can be supplied in carbon steel, SS304, or SS316L and matched to standards such as ASME, DIN, EN, JIS, GB, HG, and JB. Metric, NPT, G, and BSP thread options can also be confirmed according to the mating port. You can also combine different fittings on the two ends, such as a fixed flange with a loose flange, a flange with a threaded end, or a quick coupling with a welded tube.

Fixed Flange Metal Hose

Fixed Flange Metal Hose

Welded in a fixed position at the hose end, the flange maintains a stable bolt-hole orientation during installation. Commonly used for pumps, valves, equipment ports, and industrial piping with a confirmed connection direction.

Loose Flange Metal Hose

Loose Flange Metal Hose

Designed with a rotating flange ring behind the welded stub end, this connection allows easier bolt-hole alignment during assembly. Suitable for field installation, large-diameter piping, and locations where flange orientation is difficult to determine in advance.

Metal Hose Manufacturing and Final Inspection

Yueding can arrange metal hose production according to the confirmed drawings and order requirements. The common production process includes material cutting, initial welding, pressure testing, braid installation, secondary welding, another pressure test, surface finishing, and packaging. The nominal diameter, fitting dimensions, overall length, and component tolerances of the hose are checked step by step during production to prevent the fitting position, assembly dimensions, or finished length from differing from the confirmed requirements. The products can be manufactured and inspected with reference to GB/T 12777-2008, GB/T 14525-2010, EJMA, and other relevant technical requirements.

Every product is subject to 100% inspection before leaving the factory, mainly including visual inspection, tolerance inspection, air-leak testing, and hydrostatic pressure testing. Visual inspection focuses on confirming whether the hose has any visible damage or deformation and whether the welds are smooth and free from cracks, pores, and scratches. Dimensions and tolerances are checked against the requirements marked on the drawing, including the dimensions of each component and the connection positions. Air-leak testing is usually carried out at 1.0 times the design pressure and held for 10 minutes, with no leakage as the acceptance requirement. Hydrostatic pressure testing is usually carried out at 1.5 times the design pressure and held for 10 minutes, with no leakage as the acceptance requirement. If you have project acceptance or internal quality management requirements, the relevant inspection reports can also be confirmed before production.

More than 30 years of experience in manufacturing metal hoses and expansion joints enables us to determine a more suitable structure and production arrangement according to the pressure, temperature, conveyed medium, movement condition, and installation method. Two pressure tests during production, final dimensional verification, and final inspection can help you reduce the risk of rework and replacement after delivery due to leakage, dimensional deviation, or welding defects.
Less Installation Stress

Corrugated inner tube can accommodate normal vibration, thermal movement, and a limited range of piping movement during equipment operation. Where rigid piping is difficult to align accurately or where there is a limited deviation between equipment interfaces, the flexible hose can provide you with greater installation allowance, reduce on-site adjustment, and lower the risk of vibration and movement being transferred directly to pumps, valves, and adjoining piping.

Stable Reinforcing Braid

Stainless steel wire braid is used to reinforce and protect the corrugated inner tube and helps limit axial elongation under internal pressure. A suitable braid configuration can be matched according to the hose structure and actual operating conditions, giving you more stable performance during handling, installation, and normal operation, while reducing the replacement and after-sales pressure caused by surface damage, structural deformation, or premature failure.

Flexible Connection Configurations

Our metal hose can be fitted with suitable connection structures according to your equipment interfaces and existing piping, and the two ends can also use different configurations according to the actual installation requirements. Confirming the complete hose assembly in advance can reduce your need to add adapters, modify the piping, or carry out secondary processing after delivery, helping shorten installation time and allowing the hose to connect more smoothly to your existing equipment and piping system.

Suitable Material Matching

Hose body, braid, and connection components can be made from suitable materials according to your conveyed medium, temperature, and operating environment. A reasonable material combination can help reduce the risk of failure caused by corrosion, temperature, or material mismatch, while avoiding the use of unnecessarily high-grade materials under normal operating conditions, so that service life, operating reliability, and purchasing cost can remain in a more suitable balance.

Regular Production and Engineering Projects

More than 30 years of experience in manufacturing metal hoses and expansion joints has enabled Yueding to gradually build project experience ranging from regular hose production to the manufacture of large flexible piping assemblies.
