Braided construction allows the wrap to follow different pipe diameters, bends, and multi-branch exhaust layouts without pre-forming it to a fixed shape. Exhaust header wrap and exhaust manifold wrap can be adjusted around curves by changing the overlap as needed, making the material easier to fit around headers, manifolds, and curved motorcycle exhaust pipes.
Different exhaust areas can operate at very different temperatures. We supply fiberglass and basalt options so the material can be matched more closely to the actual heat level. Fiberglass exhaust wrap offers temperature resistance up to about 800°C, while basalt versions can reach about 1200°C, giving you a higher-temperature option for hotter exhaust sections.

What Is the Difference Between Fiberglass and Basalt Exhaust Wrap?
Fiberglass and basalt are both high-temperature fibers woven into flexible exhaust wrap tape, but their raw materials and thermal stability are different. Fiberglass is produced from molten glass and is widely used for general exhaust insulation, with more options for colors and surface treatments. Basalt fiber is made from melted natural basalt rock and maintains its structure better at higher temperatures.
Regular exhaust pipes and many motorcycle applications can use fiberglass, while hotter areas closer to the header or exhaust manifold are better suited to basalt when higher temperature resistance is required.
How Many Layers of Exhaust Wrap Should I Use, and How Much Overlap Is Recommended?
Typical installations can use around 25%–30% overlap between each pass, giving the pipe continuous coverage without adding unnecessary thickness or material consumption. Bends, manifold branches, and local hot spots may need slightly more overlap to keep the wrap tight against the pipe.
Double-layer wrapping can also be used where stronger insulation is required and installation space allows. Consistent tension and complete coverage matter more than simply adding as many layers as possible.
Should Exhaust Wrap Be Soaked Before Installation?
Fiberglass wrap does not always need to be fully soaked. Lightly wetting the material can make it more flexible, help it follow bends more closely, and reduce loose fibers during installation.Basalt wrap is usually flexible enough to install without pre-soaking. Colored or specially coated wrap should not be left in water for long periods, since the correct installation method can vary with the surface treatment.
How Much Exhaust Wrap Do I Need?
Required length depends mainly on pipe outside diameter, pipe length, wrap width, and overlap percentage. Larger exhaust pipes use more material with every turn, while greater overlap reduces the length of pipe that one roll can cover.Headers, manifolds, and pipework with multiple bends also require some extra material. Pipe diameter and the total section to be wrapped can therefore be used to estimate a more suitable roll length before ordering.
How Should Exhaust Heat Wrap Be Secured?
Starting and finishing ends should be fixed securely so the wrap does not gradually loosen through vibration and repeated heat cycles. Flexible wrapping also follows curved motorcycle exhaust pipes more easily than a pre-formed heat shield.Pipe condition should be checked before installation.
