1. Function
As we all know, if the metal wear debris, mechanical impurities and oil oxides in the oil enter the lubrication system with the oil, it will aggravate the wear of the engine parts, and may also block the oil pipe or oil passage, and may affect the normal operation of the engine in severe cases.
The oil filter is one of the important parts of the vehicle engine. Its main function is to filter impurities in the oil, keep the oil clean, reduce wear particles in the oil, and prolong the service life of the engine.

2. Type
Oil filters are divided into full-flow and split-flow.
Full flow filter
The full-flow filter is connected in series between the oil pump and the main oil passage, so it can filter all the lubricating oil entering the main oil passage. At present, full-flow oil filters are generally used in automobile engines.
There are many types of filter elements for full-flow oil filters. At present, most automobile engines use paper filter elements.
However, the full-flow oil filter has a certain service life and should be replaced when it expires.
Split flow cleaner
The shunt cleaner is connected in parallel with the main oil passage, and only filters part of the lubricating oil sent by the oil pump.
The engines of trucks, especially heavy trucks, generally adopt a full-flow + split-flow oil filter arrangement.
The full-flow filter is also a coarse filter, which is used to filter impurities with a particle size of 0.05mm or more in the oil.
The shunt filter also becomes a fine filter, which is used to filter out small impurities with a particle size above 0.001mm, and only filters 5%-10% of the oil supplied by the oil pump.

3. Installation & replacement cycle
●Installation:
a) Drain or blot old oil
b) Loosen the fixing screws and remove the old oil filter
c) Apply a layer of engine oil on the sealing ring of the new oil filter
d) Install a new oil filter and tighten the fixing screws
●Recommended replacement cycle:
The replacement frequency of the filter element is generally every 5,000 to 10,000 kilometers. It is recommended to replace it every six months for cars and commercial vehicles. The specific time depends on the vehicle usage and the quality of the oil.
When replacing the filter element, select the filter element specification that matches the vehicle engine to ensure that it is installed correctly.
All in all, the selection and use of oil filters are of great significance to the maintenance and maintenance of vehicles.
